Hello! My name is Alan Wang and from 2018-19, I'll be a Junior (11th grader) at Guilderland High School. As for current interests, I like to think of myself as a "stem cell" with the interest and ability to to pursue a wide variety of fields. For example, I am interested in Journalism, or writing in general. Yet on the opposite spectrum, I am also fascinated with the implications of Biology and how different fields can utilize this discipline to improve the living standards for the human race.

On the other hand, some fields I enjoy in terms of a "hobby" are Philosophy and History. I've often found myself absorbed when reading History textbooks for homework, surprisingly. And whenever Philosophy finds its way into my thinking (whether it be in English class or a conversation with a friend), I thoroughly enjoy the thought experiments and implications of this wide-encompassing field. After all, Philosophy was the first discipline to ever be utilized by humans -- "The Father of All Knowledge," if you will.

Besides studies, I am very active in a wide array of other activities. For school sports, I run Cross Country and Track & Field. I am also the Associate Editor on the Editorial Board for my school's Journal Club (school newspaper).

Outside of school, I have been playing violin since I was five and I am part of the Empire State Youth Orchestra, or ESYO for short. In my free time, I volunteer at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve occasionally.

I look forward to this year of EMC immensely! I cannot even begin to anticipate what my final product will be.
