Above are some really interesting links that I looked at for today’s journal entry.
I’ll be doing a podcast for my final project, but I’m still not exactly sure what my essential question is, but the idea of the “social contagion” as Dr. Robert Frank describes with COVID-19 is really interesting. His use of the solar panel anecdote was extremely relatable because it’s something I can recall clearly with my dad while driving through our neighborhood.
I think there’s many related ideas to the “social contagion” like with facemasks or celebrity influence, but also in the negative sense with fake statistics being spread all over Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. And in terms of policy, the “mother of all cognitive illusions” comes into play as well as to how we alleviate our society from this mess. What’s good for the individual vs. the group as a whole during this COVID-19 crisis also easily applies to the concepts learned in Thinking, Fast and Slow. Perhaps my final project could discuss what we need to do to get out of this crisis using ideas from Behavioral Economics?
